Partiamo da Ormea, piazza della Libertà. Risaliamo la piazza fino al termine
e qui proseguiamo diritti, costeggiando il torrente. Lasciamo a sinistra la strada
per le scuole e seguiamo i tornanti in salita.
All´incrocio lasciamo a destra la strada percorsa dall´itinerario 7 e proseguiamo
diritti. La strada si inoltra nella valle Armella, alta sul torrente. La prima parte è
in netta salita, poi incontriamo dei tratti pianeggianti.
Quando siamo in vista delle case di Valdarmella (km 4,2) troviamo una strada evidente
che scende a sinistra (scritta MTB).
Lasciamo l´asfalto e scendiamo, su fondo in cemento, fino ad un grande ponte.
Attraversiamo il ponte ed affrontiamo la salita che ci porta in un prato. Poco dopo il
sentiero va a sinistra ed entra nel bosco.
Accompagnati da segnali MTB e da frecce rosse e blu saliamo alternando tratti ciclabili
ad altri troppo ripidi, poi il sentiero diventa mulattiera e sale con due lunghi
traversi fin nei pressi del crinale. Un ultimo tornante a destra ci porta allo
strappo che termina alla Colla di Chionea (km 6,2).
Scendiamo a sinistra su buona mulattiera e raggiungiamo rapidamente un bivio (km 6,6) dove svoltiamo a sinistra sull´asfalto
entrando tra le case di Chionea.
Proseguiamo
la discesa che conduce alla chiesa del paese (km 7,1).
Abbandoniamo la strada che scende ad Ormea e svoltiamo a destra sul sagrato della
chiesa.
Siamo su una stradina asfaltata tra le case che subito si divide. Non prendiamo
la strada che scende a sinistra e neppure qualla pianeggiante a destra ma proseguiamo diritti in leggera discesa uscendo dal paese. La strada
prende il fondo in cemento e poi diviene una campestre.
Ad un bivio (km 7,4) lasciamo la strada invitante e saliamo a destra (frecce)
attraversando un ben curato castagneto. Con facile percorso arriviamo a Porzirette
(km 8,2).
Attraversiamo costeggiando a monte la borgata ed al termine prendiamo la strada leggermente a sinistra
(km 8,4; a destra, addossato all'ultima casa, gigantesco castagno).
Giungiamo in vista delle case di Rian (km 8,7). Non saliamo alla chiesa ma scendiamo a sinistra
(alle frecce si sono aggiunti i segnavia bianco/rossi), attraversiamo le poche
case e scendiamo ripidamente al torrente che attraversiamo su un ponte (km 8,9).
Saliamo faticosamente la ripa opposta e raggiungiamo una spalla oltre la quale
il sentiero prosegue pianeggiante. Raggiunta una stradina nei pressi del cimitero svoltiamo a sinistra
e scendiamo a Chioraira (km 9,5).
Attraversiamo il paese lasciando a sinistra la chiesa e raggiungendo un lavatoio ed all'uscita lasciamo l´asfalto per prendere la sterrata
in leggera salita a destra (km 9,6).
Incontriamo la strada maggiore percorsa dall'itinerario 32 e la seguiamo a sinistra, in discesa. Dopo poco
più di cento metri svoltiamo a destra in una strada pianeggiante (attenzione
a non mancare l´incrocio. Frecce).
La strada è inizialmente pianeggiante, con qualche saliscendi nell'attraversare
i torrenti, poi inizia la salita che proseguirà costante ed ininterrotta.
Raggiungiamo la larga strada (km 11,5) proveniente da Aimoni e percorsa dall´itinerario
9 e svoltiamo a destra continuando la salita.
La salita può essere impegnativa quando il fondo sia coperto di pietrisco. Passiamo sotto ai cavi degli skilift e, dopo un´ultima curva, usciamo sul bel
valico prativo de La Colma (km 13,7).
Trascuriamo le due strade a sinistra e seguiamo quella principale
salendo per raggiungere il crinale dove
(km 14) incontriamo la strada per il rifugio Valcaira. Qui svoltiamo a sinistra e seguiamo la strada in discesa.
Con bel percorso, facile e panoramico, scendiamo con ampi tornanti. Ad un bivio (km 15,5) svoltiamo a sinistra nella stradina che porta a case Brignacchi dove troviamo l'asfalto.
La strada scende al bivio (km 16,1) con la strada per case Biranco percorsa dall'itinerario
11.
Svoltiamo a sinistra e proseguiamo la discesa fino alle
vicine case di Quarzina (chiesa; km 16,4). Dislivello: 1020 m. e - 440 m. Ciclabilità: 97% Asfalto: 33% Osservazioni:

We start from Ormea, Liberty square. Climb the square up to its term and here
we continue straight on, skirting along the stream. We leave to the left the road
of the schools and we follow the hairping curves in ascent.
At the intersection we leave to the right the road crossed by the itinerary 7
and we continue straight on. The road forwards in the valley, high on the stream.
The first part is in clean ascent, meets then some level stretches.
When we are in sight of the houses of Valdarmella (km 4,4) we find an evident
road that goes down to the left (poster MTB).
We left the tarmac and we go down, on ground in concrete, thin to a great bridge.
We cross the bridge and we go down of saddle to climb in the lawn. Shortly after
the path goes to the left and returns cycle.
Accompanied of signals MTB and from red arrows climb alternating cycle stretches
to others too much steep, then the path becomes mule-track and climbs with two
long beams until near the ridge. A last hairping curve to the right there leads to the
ramp that finishes to the Colla of Chionea (km 6,4).
We go down to the left on good mule-track and we quickly reach the tarmac and
the first houses of Chionea (km 6,8).
We turn to the left and we follow the tarmac road among the houses, then continue
the descent that leads to the church of the country (km 7,4).
We abandon the road that goes down to Ormea and we turn to the right on the church
square.
We are on a narrow tarmac road among the houses that at once it divides. Don't
take the road that goes down to the left but we continue straight on going out
of the country. The road takes the ground in concrete and then it becomes a rural.
To a fork (km 7,8) we leave the inviting road and climb (arrows) to the right
crossing a well taken care chestnut wood. With easy run we reach Porzirette (km
8,6).
We cross the village and at the end we take the road slightly to the left (to
the right set to the last house, gigantic chestnut tree).
We reach the houses of Rian (km 9). Not climb to the church but we go down to
the left (to the arrows the trail signs white/red are added), we cross the few
houses and we steeply go down to the stream that we cross on a bridge (km 9,3).
Climb laboriously the opposite bank and we reach a shoulder over which the path
continues level. Reached a narrow road we turn to the left and we go down to Chioraira
(km 9,8).
We cross the country and to the exit we leave the tarmac to take the dirt road
in light ascent to the right (on the tarmac the variation goes down 14.1).
We meet a greater road that we follow to the left in descent. After few more than
one hundred meters we turn to the right in a level road (be attention not to miss
the intersection. Arrows).
The road is initially level, with some latches crossing the streams, then it begins
the ascent that will continue constant and nonstop.
We reach the most greater road (km 11,9) coming from Aimoni and crossed by the
itinerary 9 and we turn to the right continuing the ascent.
We pass under to the cables of the skilifts and, after a last curve, we go out
on the beautiful pass meadow La Colma (km 14).
We take the second road from left, characterized by the descriptive poster and
climb to reach the ridge.
The descent is fast and leads to meet the road for the shelter Valcaira (km 14,7).
We turn to the left here and we follow the road in descent.
With beautiful run, easy and panoramic, we go down with ample hairping curves. We neglect
the narrow road that, to the left, leads in houses Brignacchi and we continue
the descent. The road finishes (km 16,1) meeting that to houses Biranco crossed
by the itinerary 11.
We turn to the left reaching the tarmac and continuing the descent up to the near
houses of Quarzina (church; km 16,6). Gradient: in ascent 1020 ms. Cycle: 98% Tarmac: 33% Observations: Varying 14.1: an ample dirt road connects Chioraira to Aimoni.
We go out of Chioraira following the tarmac road in descent. The road effects
a hairping curve (the dirt road to the right is connected to the principal run) and it
reaches an intersection with a narrow smaller road (km 0,25). We turn in the narrow
road that goes down leaving the road that continues for Ormea. Shortly after the
tarmac finishes and we are on an ample dirt road that slightly crosses the woods
with undulated run. We cross the few houses of Colletta and we reach the tarmac
road to Aimoni (km 2,9).
It can be used to reenter to Ormea from Quarzina (from Quarzina to Aimoni km 4,6
tarmac street used by the itinerary 11). Or to approach the itineraries 11
and 9 avoiding the government road climbing from Ormea to Chioraira (they are
4,6 kms from Ormea up to the intersection).
